On October 28, Lt. Col. Stephen Abraham, a former military Tribunal Judge, was sponsored by NSN Iowa at Drake University in Des Moines in the “Security and Humanity” series on torture at Guantanamo. Lt. Col Abraham, featured in Ron Suskind’s new book, addressed a crowd of just under one hundred people and appeared on the local Exchange public radio program. Abraham is the first officer who served with the Office for the Administrative Review of the Detention of Enemy Combatants to publicly criticize the operations of the Combatant Status Review Tribunals. His affidavit was key to the United States Supreme Court decision to hear petitions from Guantanamo detainees and the subsequent decision (Boumediene v. Bush, 2008) that detainees have Habeas rights.
