A retired Army general is in the Tri-Cities today,  talking about the importance of the United States relying less on foreign oil and more on renewable energy.

At the Nine Canyon Wind Energy Project in Kennewick today, retired Major-General Paul Eaton said the US need to be looking to wind, solar and hydro power to drive down our reliance on oil.

He says a majority of the United States’ military power goes to securing our oil interests overseas.  “We’re talking numbers of aircraft carriers, air wings, and a lot of boots on the ground still in Iraq.  So, the total dedication of money to keeping the oil lines of communication open, very high.”

Major-General Eaton says our country’s national security is closely linked to our forgein oil consumption.
