5 Conservative Myths on the Khatallah Raid

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Members of the 75th Ranger Regiment and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) demonstrate a direct-action raid during the 2012 U.S. Army Special Operations Command Capabilities Exercise. [US ASFC Photo by Staff Sgt. Marcus Butler, 4/26/12]Over the weekend, a joint team of U.S. Special Forces and law enforcement operatives apprehended Ahmed Abu Khatallah in Libya, the alleged mastermind behind the 2012 Benghazi attack. His apprehension marks a major step forward in delivering justice for the attack that resulted in the deaths of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Unfortunately, conservatives are playing hyperbolic politics with Khatallah’s capture, as they have with the Benghazi attack for nearly two years. Already, conservatives are spinning myths about Khatallah’s interrogation, demanding he be detained … Read More ›

John Bradshaw On Newsmax Discussing Khatallah Raid With Sean Piccoli

Analyst Bradshaw: Benghazi Suspect Capture ‘Worth The Wait’ June 18, 2014 | Newsmax Newsmax’s Ed Berliner interviews NSN’s John Bradshaw on Capture of Benghazi Suspect. With no shots fired and nobody harmed, the capture of Ahmed Abu Khatallah will  help U.S. authorities explain the deadly 2012 attack on the U.S. Consulate in  Benghazi, Libya, and will position them to secure an airtight conviction of the  suspected ringleader, security analyst John Bradshaw told Newsmax  TV on Wednesday. Calling Khatallah’s capture by U.S.  commandos “something that all Americans can be very happy about,” Bradshaw,  executive director the National Security Network, told “MidPoint” host Ed  Berliner, “It has been a long time coming, but it was worth the wait.” To watch the interview and/or continue reading, click here. Conservatives Revive Political Exploitation of Benghazi Tragedy

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testifying before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Benghazi Attack on January 23, 2013 [House Committee of Foreign Affairs, 1/23/14]Ahead of the midterm elections, Congressional conservatives have resumed their witch hunt over the Benghazi attacks in a politically motivated attempt to manufacture the perception of scandal where none exists. At the center of conservatives’ political exploitation of the Benghazi tragedy is a newly released Administration talking points email that mentioned the protests occurring throughout the region in response to an inflammatory Internet video. Conservatives have attempted to spin the email as being part of an imagined cover-up because it was not released earlier. However, the email makes no mention of Benghazi and, on the contrary, alludes to protests in… Read More ›

Benghazi and the AUMF: What Not to Do

U.S. Soldiers with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division [DoD photo by Sgt. Marcus Fichtl, U.S. Army/Released, 4/29/14]Amid fresh political gamesmanship over Benghazi, conservative hysteria shows signs of crossing the Rubicon into bad policy. In the context of politically motivated attacks, Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) is preparing to introduce a measure that would amend the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) to apply to the perpetrators of the Benghazi attacks. But this proposal faces a number of severe problems. Because those thought to be responsible for the attacks in Benghazi – members of Ansar al-Sharia – are not an associated force or true affiliates of core al Qaeda, the proposal is inconsistent with the… Read More ›

John Bradshaw Quoted In The Hill On Benghazi

Benghazi justice could help Hillary run February 23, 2014 | The Hill By Julian Pecquet The Obama administration is under growing pressure to make an arrest in the Benghazi attack to quash lingering criticism of its response and help clear the road for a possible Hillary Clinton presidential run in 2016. Blame for the shortcomings that contributed to the deaths of four Americans has increasingly focused on the former secretary of State as she weighs her next move. That heat is only expected to intensify as the U.S. prepares to pass the 18-month mark since the attack on the U.S mission…   “It would be a positive thing to bring these perpetrators to justice, and I think that would be appreciated by the American public and… Read More ›

Heather Hurlburt Speaks to On Point with Tom Ashbrook about Susan Rice’s Appointment as National Security Advisor

Susan Rice’s Appointment as National Security Advisor June 06, 2013 | WBUR Special guests James Kitfield, senior national security correspondent at the National Journal, Kori Schake, research fellow at the Hoover Institution, and Senator John McCain’s national security advisor during his 2008 campaign, and the National Security Network’s Executive Director, Heather Hurlburt, discuss Susan Rice’s appointment as President Obama’s national security advisor and how it will impact the administration’s policies. “Susan [Rice] had been with Obama since the very beginning, and being U.N. Ambassador, has been in every important meeting, every principle meeting.  So, this is Obama being Obama at a very profound level, this is the President putting around him those he feels comfortable with and those he feels he can trust.” – Heather Hurlburt… Read More ›

The Benghazi Sideshow

The continuing political sideshow about the assault on Benghazi that resulted in the deaths of four Americans spilled into full view yesterday, as Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) used the Sunday shows to trade charges with Ambassador Thomas Pickering, chair of the State Department’s Accountability Review Board, and former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates called Issa’s positions “cartoonish.” Meanwhile, journalists and a number of respected conservatives spoke out against many of the accusations made. The assault on Benghazi was a tragedy with serious implications. It does not deserve to be made into a political spectacle. House Benghazi investigation: a political strategy. Politico reports this morning, “Boehner’s become obsessed with Benghazi. With Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) as the public face and the speaker’s office as the muscle,… Read More ›

National Security Network Cited in Crooks and Liars on the facts of Benghazi

Fox News Once Again Leverages Obama Daughters for Shock Value By Karoli May 10, 2013 | Crooks and Liars There are some places you don’t go, even when speculating. At least, you don’t if you’re a decent human being who doesn’t imagine a grisly death of Chelsea Clinton or Sasha and Malia Obama for the sake of flogging the nontroversy that is Benghazi. Eric Bolling is not a decent human being. He is a bad shill for bad right wing policy, but he has the added negative of being a guy who will say anything, just because he can. In this particular segment, he is trying to make hay out of the myth that the military was not sent in but told to stand down. Think of this one… Read More ›
